Today is my first day at the preteen art extreme. It is a camp all about art and crafts. Throughout the week, we are going to do clay works, ceramics, print making, painting and much more fun art projects.
Today is the first day everything we did today was with clay. We used the three techniques of making clay works. Coil pot, slab, and pinch pot. For coil pot project, we made a vase; coil pot making takes a lot of time and effort. For the slab project, we made a slab lantern; making slabs are easy, but putting the slab into a lantern is hard work! Finally, the last one is the pinch pot. The pinch pot is my favourite technique for today. We made animals out of clay using this technique. I made a turtle and it looked so awesome ;) I like this new camp!
The second day we did some acrylic painting and watercolor painting in the bear creek park. You have to pick a spot you like and draw the nature. It’s my first time doing that and it was a nice experience.
On the third day, we finished our acrylic paintings and made some graffiti art on paper with oil and chalk pastels. You give yourself a nickname (mine is KAREBEAR Jasmine named me that) then you have to imagine that you are using spray paint. My graffiti art turned out pretty well. Mom and Sabrina both liked it very much.
On Friday we made some cool prints with the printmaking technique. First you take a Styrofoam plate and draw some designs on it with a pencil. You can make the line thicker or thinner to get different effects. Then you cut the shape you want out of the plate. After that you put some special paint like ink and use a roller to roll it on to your drawn and cut out Styrofoam plate. Finally, you use it like a stamp and put it on paper. My design was an octopus I made four prints in four different colors. I gave one to mom and one to Sabrina.
Friday is also the exhibition day which means that parents come to see all of our wonderful artworks we made during this busy week. Sadly, mom forgot her camera but…oh well… I had lots of fun at the camp and I might go there again!
